Golden Village's rules about food are too strict

I WOULD like to highlight a particularly annoying policy of Golden Village cinemas.
On a recent movie outing at Golden Village Tampines, I was stopped at the entrance by the ticketing staff because I was not allowed to bring in the two swiss rolls which I had bought from Breadtalk.
I explained that they were bought for my family breakfast and I had no intention to consume them in the cinema.
The staff insisted that I am not allowed entry unless they confiscated the rolls and that I may collect them at the end of the movie.
I tried to explain my case again but the staff politely rejected my explanation and offered to refund me my money for the movie if I insisted to bring in the food items.
Another friend of mine related a similar experience and this time it was at Great World City.
She had bought groceries from a health store and intended to bring them in. Again, she was stopped because they checked her grocery bags and found cherries in it.
They insisted that she was not allowed to bring them in because they suspected that she would gobble the whole box of unwashed cherries!
My point here is that Golden Village is taking its policy of no outside food too far and should review its rules.
It also does not have the right to make assumptions about what movie-goers do with the food items that they carry with them.
It should also review the choices of snacks that are available and see how it can sell them at competitive prices.


i was like huh????? wth.... this rule has been here for YEARS LE!!!!! hahaha... still wannna complain...

am surprised that Mrs Sharon Lim has chosen to express her dismay over the rules rather than her own actions, 'Golden Village's rules about food are too strict' (Online forum, Feb 6).
Picture this: Mrs Lim was caught red-handed with what was deemed by GV regulations as 'unauthorised' foodstuffs. She did not deny it, and attempted to talk herself out of it. Having failed to do so, she was understandably annoyed, and has now chosen to make a meal out of the whole incident by attacking the policies of GV.
The fact remains that GV did not impose such restrictions overnight; they have been around for years. Only recently has GV staff been taking more initiative to enforce these rules, no doubt stemming from an increased number of complaints by other patrons. GV has every right to defend its policy on food restrictions without reservation. It cannot offer concessions to a small minority because that implies preferential treatment is tolerated.
If such restrictions are not agreeable with Mrs Lim, she could always purchase a DVD and watch the movie at home.
On a separate note, cell phones are becoming an increasing nuisance in cinemas. Most inconsiderate patrons brazenly use their cell phones to send SMSes or receive calls during the show, with obvious disregard for other patrons.
As most of these offenders are recalcitrants and punitive action has not been effective, may I suggest that cinema operators upgrade their theatres to block out network signals completely, in the same manner as the Esplanade Theatre.
